This infrared image shows railroad track railroad car carrying 123 gobs of nuclear waste . Do n’t worry about all that heating system though , because according to nuclear energy and proliferation expert Matthew Bunn , it “ does n’t intend anything in particular in terminal figure of how dangerous [ the waste ] is . ”
Along with Bunn ’s comfort words , we also have the knowledge that nuclear waste has been safely transport the same means for years :
The train is hauling a so - called CASTOR convoy , named after the type of container carried : Cask for Storage and Transport Of Radioactive material . These trademarked casks have been used since 1995 to transport nuclear waste from German power plant life to France for reprocessing , then back to Germany for storage .

All those facts apart though , I would n’t desire to be anywhere near the area that this wagon train is going through , so prop to the folks from Greenpeace International for snap the images . [ National GeographicviaThe Atlantic ]
