For a caller that take off out makingadd - on lenses for smartphones , Momenthas cursorily grown into a purveyor of a wide compass of camera and habitation office cogwheel . But with Moment ’s new telephone line of Travelwear , Moment is take away a bragging step by going up against some of the biggest names in baggage .

Consisting of several new bags , pack , andtotes , it feel like Moment ’s new MTW line has taken brainchild from contender like North Face , Timbuk 2 , and most notablyPeak purpose , and make something simple-minded , but still unique . Every part in the line sportsman an minimize , minimalist construction that look forward-looking without travel too far into being techy , or unnecessarily silken , with the newMTW Backpacksplitting the difference of opinion between Jansport ’s classic SuperBreak bags and thePeak Design Everyday Backpack Zip . And after having tested out a few of the Moment ’s MTW bags briefly , there ’s a mess to wish for some like me — who overhaul my own everyday carry bag situation latterly .

While Moment ’s new bag are n’t specifically project for lugging camera around , like Peak Design , Moment has a few add - ons packs meant to help protect delicate camera gear in passage . For smaller stuff , you have the newMTW Tech OrganizerandBattery Organizerfor stash away affair like wires , clean cloths , and placard reader , while the5 liter Camera Insertis intended to conciliate a camera body and a two or three lenses , depending on your loadout .

But to me , the real star of the show is the knapsack , which is something I could have used months ago when I attempt to find out a substitute for my original Peak Design Everyday Messenger . While I like the size and portability of messenger bags , after hold one around daily for more than five years , I finally admitted that the single transversal - chest strap has been ruining my back , peculiarly on days when it was full load with a camera and a laptop and bunch of other material . So I decided to regularize one ofPeak Design ’s Everyday Backpacks , which I pronto repay after little more than a week and terminate up replacing with Peak ’s big Travel Backpack ( which at 45L , is a bit too bad to carry around on the reg ) .

My primary subject with the Everyday Backpack is that I found it to be too stiff , which made it finger like wear upon a turtle casing , while its strict sides and somewhat awkward side pockets signify that while it was good at bear cameras , it was n’t great at adapting to other stuff like groceries or random gismo . Also , while I really like the Peak Design ’s signature MagLatch when used on a messenger bag , I find it ’s not as utile on a haversack , where it ’s laborious to reach that main pocket without taking it off .

or else , made from stormproof Kodra cloth ( which is a more or less different take on Dupont ’s patented Cordura stuff ) and available in 17 and 21 l sizes , the MTW Backpack offers a lighter , more whippy body , with a flimsy side - cypher air pocket in front with a few dividers and mesh zip for things like pen and coins , a more roomy laptop computer arm in back with a simple divider ( with plenty of distance for 15 or 16 - column inch notebook computer ) , and a big zippered bulk in the midriff .

Using smaller pouches and inserts make it easy for the MTW Backpack to accommodate various loads, while also being able to quickly adjust any oddly shaped items you might need to carry.

For something that ’s meant to be an workaday carry bag , this apparatus makes a good deal more signified , cave in you debauched access to smaller items like Key that you might need to stash upfront , while protect more expensive hooey like a laptop or tablet in back . There ’s even a ventilated padded mesh the protects both your gear and your back . Meanwhile , you have all that room in the centre to play Tetris with whatever you need to gestate , and if you want to convert the backpack into a television camera bag , it ’s easy to toss in something like Moment ’s Camera Insert . I prefer that infinitely to trying to convert a consecrate camera travelling bag into something more multipurpose .

Elsewhere , Moment has borrowed some other low features encounter on Peak Design ’s bags , such as the addition of four mainstay loops that you may use to facilitate tie down various items , and a built - in pass - through instrument panel in back so you could fall away the backpack over the handgrip of larger rolled baggage . You also get a built - in water bottle sack than can hold canteens up to 750 or 1000 millilitre . It ’s a straightforward but also attentive setup .

In a pot of way , and I do entail this as a compliment , Moment ’s new MTW stemma looks and find like a more streamlined and lightweight take on Peak Design ’s dish , which is something that gratefully also carries over to its price . That ’s because starting at $ 180 ( or $ 150 as part of Moment ’s launch discount rate ) , the MTW Backpack is also cheaper than a similarly sized Everyday Backpack Zip or standard Everyday Backpack , which cost $ 220 and $ 260 severally .

When it comes to travel organization, I really like have a smaller removable bag or pouch for holding important items like passports, memory cards, and extra money.

The only thing that I ’m not sure of just yet is Moment ’s Kodra fabric . While its quite light-colored , at least right now , it ’s hard to say if it will bust quite as well as the thicker 400D nylon canvas Peak Design uses in its bags — which for me has held up rather nicely even after five days . My married woman did remark that the Korda does n’t look or sense very premium — though I ’m not particularly bothered . That say , Moment offer a lifetime warranty on all of its Moment - made product ( aside from simple decorative blemish ) , so if that Kodra cloth wears out , you should be able-bodied to get a free replacement .

But if you ’re wait for something that straddles the line between an updated take on the classic sheet backpack but with a pile of the neat minuscule features and addition found on more modern pocketbook , the MTW Backpack has deal to deliver a very interesting middle ground .

presently , Moment ’s MTW bag line is useable as a part of a pre - order effort onKickstarter — which at this full stop in the party ’s lifecycle is used more to guess gross sales pastime than to secure literal financing — with earlybird deduction roam from $ 15 to $ 30 depending on the product , and an approximate shipping engagement slat for sometime in November or December ( depending on the item ) .

Here is a size comparison of the 21 liter version of the MTW Backpack next to my much larger 45 liter Peak Design Travel Backpack, which I really like, but is a bit too big to use on a daily basis.
