Back in March , Apple washit with a class activeness lawsuitover Siri being speechless and bad . Which , well — yeah , pretty much . But instead of rushing to the Defense Department of its prized new software , Apple has run out a refutation of , basically , “ No , YOU ARE . ”

Here ’s the introduction and summary of Apple ’s motion to dismiss the case , asdug up by the Wall Street Journal :

Tellingly , although complainant take they became disgruntled with Siri ’s performance “ soon after ” purchasing their iPhones , they made no attempt to avail themselves of Apple ’s 30 - daytime replication policy or one - twelvemonth warranty - which remains in effect . alternatively , they seek to take an alleged personal score about the purport functioning of a pop mathematical product and turn it into a nationwide grade action under California ’s consumer protection legislative act . The Complaint does not come close to meeting the heavy load necessary to hold such claims .
And hey , sure , that makes sensation when you ’re trying to get a cause tossed . But once it get to talking about Siri ’s actual performance , here ’s all Apple has to say : “ As a cutting - edge technology still under developing , Siri was released ( and remains ) in “ beta . ” … Apple let out Siri ’s beta status both during the October 4 , 2011 press consequence in which Apple announced iPhone 4S and in the consequent Press Release . ”
Not exactly a shining endorsement .

And it ’s not like Siri deserves one . Everyone sort of come off looking bad here . Apple is right that Siri is in beta , but that ’s fine , fine mark in the glossy ad that it ’s shoving down technical school - speechless America ’s throat . And the jackasses suing over voice command computer software are jackasses — the sort who form - action at law Eugene Sue over something as vacuous as voice command software .
Still , it ’s merriment that when Apple has to come down to it , in effectual terms , its description of Siri boils down to , “ WE’RE WORKING ON IT , okay ? ” [ WSJvia9to5mac ]
