Afteropening its first store in the UK last Friday , Best Buy has seen its best - ever porta weekend sales since they first set up shop in 1983 . In this geezerhood of online shopping , it ’s surprising . But not for the UK .

See , here in my abode country , we do n’t have Fry ’s , Walmart , or Circuit City . sure as shooting , we ’ve get a few chains — Currys , PC World , and up until latterly Dixons ( which has now gone online - only ) , but we for sure do n’t have any megamarts full of aisle of various cable television and plug like the States does .
Best Buy ’s first store is in Thurrock , Essex — located East of London , it ’s near where the 2012 Olympics will be withstand . While Best Buy had some decent reductions on its first step day , and a raft of fanfare , I can see it doing really well here , despite the obvious threat of online shopping on Amazon etc being unattackable .
Currys and Dixons , have by the same DSG International group , have a jolly uncollectible reputation . While Dixons has gone online - only , Currys still handle to astound with its poor alternative and lack of noesis in staff . Fair enough , I ’m cognizant I have sex more about technology than the average bloke off the street , but every time I ’ve call in a branch I ’ve always been appalled by how little they bonk . Not just that though — it ’s the amount of wrong info they ’re uncoerced to feed likely customers . They are quite willing to just make hooey up on the fleck , to sell a couple of TVs .
It ’s get down to the point where if I ’m walking past a branch I ’ll dip in , just to quiz an helper and hear their bumbling mistake .
So Best Buy ’s puzzle a real vantage here , I think . I know in the US their memory assistants are famed for knowing jack all about the product they sell , but it ’s still a strong brand .
Having a enough compass with semi - versed helper should hopefully revitalize the high street retail tech diligence .
