The two actresses reminisced while onThe Ellen DeGeneres ShowpromotingAvengers: Endgameon Tuesday when Elle DeGeneres asked them how they met.
When the 61-year-old host asked if they texted each other before meeting the first time, Larson, 29, said, “We did.”
This raised some red flags for Johansson as that wasn’t the case, so she asked Larson, “You don’t remember how we met?”
“I do. At dinner,” Larson replied — which also wasn’t right.

“No! Clearly, it made an impression on me but somebody else didn’t care,” Johansson, 34, declared. “We worked together!”
Larson appeared shocked, saying, “I didn’t even think about that because I just felt like I was basically a glorified extra and you were Scarlett Johansson.”
“I noticed you, Brie. I noticed you. You were not a glorified extra,” Johansson said, smiling.
TheEllenepisode comes after they both attended the Los Angeles premiere ofAvengers: Endgameon Monday night.
Johansson shared some powerful words about her experience playing Black Widow at the premiere.
“I don’t know what to say, I’m extremely overwhelmed,” Johansson told the crowd. “Thank you so much for this past decade oftime’s been absolutely life-changing.”

She continued her emotional speech, saying, “It’s been such a pleasure to come to work every day, I feel incredibly fortunate to be with such a beautiful cast of creative people, open-minded people, and it’s been an incredible journey. Impossible to put into words, thank you so much.”
Johansson has played Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow sinceIron Man 2in 2010 and has reprised her role in multiple Marvel Cinematic Universe films, being one of the surviving Avengers after the events ofInfinity War.
She’ll next appear as Black Widow in thecharacter’s first solo movie, rumored to begin filming this year.
Larson made her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in March’sCaptain Marvel, which hasgrossed over $1 billionat the worldwide box office.
Avengers: Endgameis in theaters Friday.
