Undoubtedly up there with some of theweirdest animal on Earth , platypuses resemble a jumble of about four dissimilar animals . These ill-scented monotremes are found swim around Australia ’s rivers , laying eggs ( more on that later on ) and raising their young . But what do you call a baby platypus ?
Let’s start with breeding
Of course , we have to mention the utterly eccentric phenomenon that is monotreme breeding . There are only two extant members of the order Monotremata , the platypus and the echidna , and they are the only living mammals to lay testicle .
duckbill mate between August and September , and the female will lay ordinarily two small , leathery eggs in a burrow on the side of the riverbank to be incubate . Typically , the eggs are incubated for around 10 day before they hatch . The new-sprung materialization will nurse Milk River from specialized sudor glands directly from the female parent ’s skin for around four month before they leave the nest .
So what are baby platypuses called?
While not full bear by everyone in the scientific community , the most common name for a young duckbilled platypus is a " puggle " . TheAustralian Museumsuggests that duck-billed platypus are thought to make sexual maturity at around a year old and can live as many as 20 years in the natural state .

The name puggle is also used for the offspring of the other penis of the egg-laying mammal family , the anteater . And , coincidently , it ’s the name of the dog strain that is the product of a beagle intersect with a pug-dog .
